LONDON GREEN 2008
turning green ...
is now at forefront of every
nation’s agenda, a way of living
imperative in conserving our
planets natural resources and
in reducing the impact on our
already strained environment.
This means individually we must
all become aware of our
ecological footprint, challenge
our way of living and introduce
greener habits that collectively
create a better future for us
and future generations to come.

Large cities such as London
account for over 75% of the
world’s greenhouse gases and
London’s responsibility is to
lead others in taking action now.
As a pledge to make a change to
their lifestyles and embrace going
green, the London Green initiative
is an interactive and educational
dialogue with Londoners informing
them of vital facts and effects on
our environment. Ultimately, it
delivers an encouraging message
of how small changes individually
will help towards thegreater goal
of making our great city cleaner,
healthier and greener.

THE POLLUTED FUTURE

The shocking truth for all of us
is that time is running out.
Scientists have reached a consensus
that carbon dioxide emissions from
human activities are the major cause
of global warming, the next question is:
how can we stop it? can we just cut back
on carbon, or do we need to go cold turkey?
According to a new study by scientists,
halfway measures will not do the job.
To stabilize our planet’s climate, we
need to find ways to kick the carbon habit
altogether. if we do not - within 50 years
global warming will accelerate to the point
where the planet and its inhabitants will
literally suffocate.

Start your greener lifestyle
with some of our simple everyday
suggestions ...

- cancel the junk mail
- say no to carrier bags
- buy in bulk to reduce packaging
- compost your food waste
- give unwanted items to charity
- don’t leave appliances on standby
- boil as much water as you need
- switch off unnecessary lights
- switch to low energy light bulbs

SHOWCASE

example of the "showcase" design, which is a quick visual overview of the whole campaign

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

London Green T-shirt original design has changed slightly after taking on board some feedback from the client, now its more relevant to the White Bus Tour and London city
well...I think I am really unlucky today...I cant upload any photos!!!! more updates on its way ...
Updates.......
Its been really busy time as we approaching the deadline of FMP and the show.....
Now it all starts make sense.....the visuals, concept, green messages, THE CAMPAIGN!!!
I finally managed to print the media folder which has been designed in order to present all the visuals to my client. It costs lots of stress and work but at the and Im happy with the result, just to mention, we were really restricted by the time and the budget, so again, I am really happy it all looks good. The folder contains the showcase pocket, which is the introduction and overview of the campaign, secondly it includes leaflets section ( campaign info, pollution/solution handouts, white bus tour & map notifications/ adverts), it also includes postcards with the visuals representing the campaign and the last part is posters and advertising.
The advertising case has been created in order to highlight the client the top spots in London that we aim for ( the central location and transport services like tube, buses ....), the spots that the campaign will be displayed and shown to the audience.
We aim for people who live, work, study or visit London, who spend their time traveling around the city, who are busy living their stressful life but still can stop for a second in front of an eye - catching billboard.
Moreover, the goody bag is READY now.....the t-shirt design has changed, the client preferred white t-shirt with london skyline in the background, they wanted to highlight the fact that the campaign takes place in such metropolitan city like London, which should encourage other big cities to put the foot down on the pollution problem and support London in its action.

THE LONDON GREEN MESSAGE

Turning Green … is now at the forefront of every nations agenda, a way of living imperative in conserving our planets natural resources and in reducing the impact on our already strained environment. This means individually we must all become aware of our ecological footprint, challenge our way of living and introduce greener habits that collectively create a better future for us and future generations to come.

Large cities account for over 75% of the world’s greenhouse gases and London has its responsibility to lead others in taking action now. As a pledge to make a change to their lifestyles and embrace going green, the London Green Initiative is an interactive and educational dialogue with Londoners informing them of vital facts and effects on our environment. Ultimately, it delivers an encouraging message of how small changes individually will help towards the greater goal of making our great city cleaner, healthier and greener.

Audience Reach

Populace living and working in London
Transitory public such as tourists, business people, students, other UK travellers, etc
Leaflets are also ideal for colleges, hospitals and public service arenas

The Final Phase – Interact With Us and Have Some Fun!

The campaign culminates in The London White Bus Tour, an innovative visual take on the red bus highlighting Londoners pledge to its city. Free tours will circumnavigate around the famous landmarks of London. The visual and conceptual message of the ‘white bus’ draws upon the importance of making London cleaner and greener for all now and for the future.

The idea is to use black and white photography in order to present campaign material in the central environment of London.
This is only a quick test to see the combination of black background with green posters

FOLDER DESIGN

Folder Design - Media Pack for the initiative for London Green became a part of my project after time consuming oranisation of the visual material that has been already produced. The pack its excellent idea for presentation of the product to the client.

Folder design had taken me a lot of time because it is difficult to measure everything precisely and plan where it will fold and how thick it supposed to be. The other difficult part of it is that is not a standard folder, usually presentation folders have only two parts, mine has three. So I went to couple different places to find out how to print it and if it is possible to do it, unfortunately no one does this kind of customized folders. Normally if you want to print a folder, you have to order minimum of 50, which costs at least £200. I began to stressed about it and decided to contact a designer back home ( Poland ) and find out about places where I could print the folder. Fortunately there is a private company which does this kind of designs, so I got in touch with them and explained what I would like to produce. I had to design and measure everything really carefully and predict the thickness of the folder and pockets inside of it. I have finished it last night and have emailed all my files. Now its the most stressful part-WAITING!! I hope that everything will come up as I designed and that they will sent it back to be on time!

* The campaign has changed significantly since the start, all around the client’s feedback and what has been requested. Once the media pack ( campaign folder ) is created the client will then move to stage 2 and present it to the focus group to run sample response.

PROJECT SO FAR....

Updates on where I stand....
By now I have design 5 posters which bring 5 different messages, e.g.'11 million car journeys are made in London everyday', 'London produce 53 tonnes carbon dioxide annually, 7.4 tonnes per person' or ' Most pollution in London comes from road traffic'.....HELP TURN YOUR LONDON GREEN ...
Poster section includes billboards, light-boxes, platform posters, tube carriage inserts and bus adverts.
Currently I am designing leaflets:
1. one general leaflet about London Green campaign which will be smaller and will include tube map, so people can pick it up at the station and carry it around.
2. two handouts about London pollution/solution of how decrease it.
3. London White Bus Tour leaflet informing about the event which includes map of the tour

As I was thinking of the presentation of campaign material to the client , I came up with an idea of folder, which will have three different sections:
1. intro to the campaign and mini showcase of the designs
2. leaflets and postcards sections
3. posters: billboards/bus adverts and mockups of LG adverts in the real environment.

As a part of London White Bus Tour I designed a special green Goody Bag which will be given away for free to all people on the day of the tour.
The bag includes:
T-shirt/ Cap/ Badges/ Key ring

GOODY BAG DESIGN

* The Goody Bag is only design to lunch the Bus Tour as a means to celebrate the one
day event. Public using the tour bus will have a moment to remember and spread the
word about London Green’s “active” campaign.

SUMMARY

The point and feedback given by the client
* An easy understanding of making London greener city and the individuals and the collective impact by making small changes to our lives in order for London to be a cleaner and greener city.
* Simple to understand
* Clear message which is informative and fact based
* Deliver the message of turning London Green and how this is possible
* Direct and impactful

GADGETS

As the project develops I started designing the gadgets for campaign supporters. That includes badges, t-shirt, cap, key-ring.
